Prep Your Kitchen for Summer With These Five Tips

Prep Your Kitchen for Summer With These Five Tips

Summer is almost here, so now is the time to make your kitchen feel light and fresh just in time for the warmer weather! These tips will instantly make your kitchen look more summery and make you want to spend more time in your favorite room of the house!

1. Switch Out Linens and Plates

Now is the time to put away the dark-colored tablecloths, placemats, and accessories, and replace them with their light, breezy counterparts. Pastels and bright, vivid colors will invite summer into your kitchen and dining space quickly. If you have a summery set of plates and a more reserved, wintery set, make that switch now, as well.

2. Bring the Outdoors In

Clear your countertops from clutter and knickknacks and keep your decorative touches simple this summer. A bowl of fresh fruit and vase of flowers will instantly breathe fresh air into your space and these touches never go out of style. A windowsill herb garden or potted plant will offer a similar effect and doesn't have to take up a ton of space.

3. Pull the Blender Out

The blender is a summer staple in many households, so keeping it on the counter during the summer months just makes sense to facilitate smoothies, milkshakes and homemade slushies. Having your blender on the counter will make it that much easier to whip up a healthy treat any time of day.

4. Pick up Extra Ice Trays

If you don't have an automatic ice maker in your freezer, you'll want to stock up on a few extra ice trays and make sure there's plenty of room for them in your freezer. You'll go through far more ice during the summer months, and few kitchen emergencies are worse than realizing you don't have ice for your iced tea.

5. Dig out Your Old Cookbooks

It's easy to let a quick online search replace the cookbook collection. This year, make it a point to browse through some of your favorite cookbooks and select a few summery recipes to try. This is a great way to expand your culinary horizons, introduce the family to a new dish or two, and give your cookbooks a little bit of love.

Still feel like you should do more? A top-to-bottom kitchen cleaning might be in order; taking everything out of the cabinets to dust and clean, organize, and reevaluate what you actually use might be eye-opening.
